When photography becomes a statement.

Photography can shift the character of a space, introducing a different perspective, atmosphere and visual language. In both private and public environments, it can become a defining element of how the space is experienced.

We work across different artistic mediums, choosing each for the particular presence it can bring to a space.

Jaume Plensa

Jaume Plensa is one of the most significant contemporary sculptors, whose monumental works have become landmarks in cities around the world.

Why are his figures almost always portrayed with closed eyes?

Because they aren’t looking at the world. They’re looking inward.

For Plensa, closed eyes symbolize silence, stillness and reflection, inviting us to pause in a world that rarely does.

“The head is the nest where our dreams are born.”

To Plensa, the human head is not simply anatomy. The head contains memory, desire, dreams and knowledge.

Many of Plensa’s sculptures are composed of letters, reflecting his fascination with language as something that shapes our identity and connects us across cultures. In his work, words become a physical presence, giving form to memory, emotion and the invisible parts of being human.

His figures aren’t memorials, even though many are cast from his own body. They begin with a real body in a real place, at a particular moment in time, but they’re less about representation than presence.

Scatter a hundred of them across a mountainside or a tidal beach, and the point isn’t the sculptures themselves. It’s the sudden awareness that you’re sharing the same landscape, becoming conscious of your own place within it.

Which is maybe why this one works so well. Facing out through the glass, arms open toward the trees. Not asking to be looked at. Simply occupying a place, and leaving room for the next person to inhabit it.

Sculptural works by Wim Botha, Edoardo Villa and Claudette Schreuders share the open-plan interior with artworks by Jan-Henri Booyens, Jacob van Schalkwyk, Conrad Botes and Zander Blom, creating a layered dialogue between contemporary African art and the apartment’s monolithic architecture.

Throughout the space, carved wooden African masks and figures from the homeowner’s private collection exist somewhere between artwork and artefact. They bring history, ritual and spiritual presence into the home, connecting contemporary artistic practices with older forms of cultural expression.

George Rouy (b. 1994) is one of the leading voices of a new generation of British painters.

Working between figuration and abstraction, he uses the body as a way to explore movement, emotion and psychological tension. His figures rarely have faces or clear identities. Instead, they remain open, allowing the viewer to project their own experiences onto them.

For Rouy, the body isn’t something fixed. It is constantly shifting, dissolving and becoming. His paintings are less about depicting people than about capturing what it feels like to exist within a body.

Today, his work is represented by Hauser & Wirth and has quickly become one of the most recognisable voices in contemporary figurative painting.

For these artists, colour is not used to describe the world. It becomes the world itself.

Megan Rooney treats colour as memory. Her paintings emerge from accumulated sensations, landscapes and emotions, allowing remembered places to resurface without ever becoming literal images. As she puts it, she is interested in “how colour attaches to memory.”

For Pam Evelyn, colour behaves like an emotional gesture. Built through slow layering, scraping and revision, her paintings feel less like compositions than traces of attention, movement and time.

Corinne Vogel approaches painting as an intuitive landscape. Her works suggest places that cannot be mapped, where atmosphere matters more than representation and colour becomes a way of navigating emotion rather than geography.

In Katharina Grosse’s practice, colour escapes the canvas entirely. It spreads across walls, floors and architecture, dissolving the boundary between painting and space. Colour is no longer something we look at. It becomes an environment we physically inhabit.

Perhaps this is why abstraction remains so compelling. Before we recognise an image, we recognise a feeling.

Colour arrives first.

Home built around ideas, not objects.

This is the home of Chinese artist and collector Zeng Fanzhi.

Rather than treating art as the final decorative touch, every element here exists in dialogue. Contemporary paintings, Japanese calligraphy, Song dynasty ceramics, antique stone, modern furniture and design objects all become part of a single visual language.

When asked what he wanted this house to feel like, Zeng answered:

“I wanted the feeling of living on an archaeological site.”

A place where different periods, cultures and materials coexist.A Rembrandt etching can exist next to Japanese calligraphy by Yuichi Inoue, Harry Bertoia’s sound sculptures and contemporary works by Frank Auerbach without feeling eclectic for the sake of it. The collection is held together by a clear curatorial vision, where every work contributes to a shared narrative rather than simply filling the space.
